On Thursday afternoon, my roommate and I
were watching TV in the living room when we randomly stumbled upon an
advertisement for “Hip-T”.
Hip-T is a piece of fabric that women can
wear around their waist over their pants. The advertisement explained that
Hip-T is the solution to a big problem that women face: they are embarrassed to
bend or sit down because their pants are pulled downwards, exposing their
underwear. Hip-T promises to make women confident and comfortable since the
fabric covers their waist, while being small and not actually adding another
“bulky” layer underneath their clothes.
When the ad was over, both my roommate and
I started laughing, because we really found Hip-T to be a useless and unnecessary
product. Sure, exposure of our underwear is annoying, and it is clever of the
Hip-T’s creators to think of a way to make women’s lives easier. But is it
really worth to spend at least $ 8.95 in order to solve a problem that could be
solved in so many other ways (wearing a long shirt, a belt, or pants that
actually fit)? And is underwear exposure really such a big problem, one that is
worth to waste extra natural resources for? I don’t think so. I think that as a
society, we need to reevaluate our priorities of which products we actually
need and which products are a complete waste of money and resources.

I couldn't agree more! Why would anyone waist money
ReplyDeleteon a small circular piece of fabric? The author's solution makes sense to me.
