As reported in a column of The Consumerist, “[a customer] was told at a corporate-run Sprint
store that if he wanted to go home with an iPhone 5, he also had to buy an
accessories package.” The company is manipulating the popularity of the new iPhone
5 to make more profit. Since the iPhone 5 is just released and people are
trying to be the first to get it, the company is using the urge of the consumers
to force them to buy “add-on” items. Though Sprint is able to make more profit
on those who are still willing to buy the iPhone, it is hurting its reputation
and pushing its customers away with this policy. Comparing the pros and cons,
the company is surely losing a lot rather than gaining, in the long run. From
the force-buy of Sprint, it’s shown that sometimes we may not have the freedom
on what we buy, which is so ironic, since we are the ones paying the money!
